Master in International Business and Management (MSc)

In this module, you begin by exploring the structure and key components of the global financial marketplace. You develop a clear understanding of how the international financial system operates, including its major institutions and the relationships between central banks, commercial banks, governments, corporations, and investors. This foundation prepares you to examine the broader dynamics of global finance with confidence.
You then move on to study the main types of international financial markets, including money markets, capital markets, foreign exchange markets, and derivatives markets. As you progress, you critically assess their distinct characteristics, purposes, and the financial instruments they offer. You compare their scope, functions, and importance within the global economy, building a well-rounded perspective of how they interact.
The module also guides you through the operational processes that keep these markets functioning. You examine trading systems, settlement procedures, regulatory structures, and the technological innovations that support cross-border financial activity.
Finally, you focus on financial risk management in international markets. You analyse how tools such as derivatives, currency swaps, and hedging strategies are used to manage financial exposure in an increasingly interconnected and volatile global environment.

In this module, you begin by exploring demand fulfilment processes within supply chain operations. You are introduced to key concepts such as order management, logistics coordination, and customer service levels, building a solid foundation in how organisations deliver products efficiently and reliably to customers.
You then examine inventory management models in depth, analysing both deterministic and stochastic approaches to inventory control. You learn how to apply tools such as Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), safety stock calculations, and service level analysis to balance cost efficiency with customer satisfaction.
As the module progresses, you investigate supply chain risks by identifying, assessing, and evaluating potential disruptions across global networks. You consider challenges such as demand variability, supplier failure, and geopolitical uncertainty, and explore strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
You also evaluate supply chain practices in real-world contexts, particularly within manufacturing and retail industries. Through case studies and best practice examples, you assess how organisations adapt their strategies to sector-specific pressures.
Finally, you apply quantitative and qualitative techniques—including forecasting, lean management, and network optimisation—to enhance supply chain performance, while critically assessing their practical limitations through problem-solving exercises.

You will develop the skills to critically apply strategic management models and frameworks to analyse organisations operating in complex global environments. Through this module, you will explore how firms respond to and shape the global business landscape, assessing the economic rationale behind international expansion and the strategic challenges faced by both multinational and domestic companies. You will evaluate global strategies, assess risk (including political and institutional factors), and explore how firms build international presence through innovation, new ventures, and strategic change. Additionally, you will examine ethical considerations and corporate social responsibility within a global context, recognising their impact on long-term strategic direction.
You will learn to generate and appraise alternative strategic options and justify a recommended course of action for an organisation, supported by rigorous analysis. A key focus will be on presenting strategic choices that account for global dynamics, including non-market strategies and the interplay between business and institutional environments.
You will also gain foundational knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), enabling you to understand how financial reporting influences strategic decision-making and organisational performance. You will assess how financial data reflects economic events and impacts strategic management, particularly in relation to earnings management and external stakeholder communication.
Overall, you will be equipped to critically evaluate and articulate the future direction of an organisation within a global context, integrating financial, ethical, and strategic dimensions in a cohesive analysis.

This module introduces you to key leadership theories and concepts, including classical, behavioural, contingency, transformational, and contemporary perspectives. You will explore how these approaches apply across different organisational settings and cultures, building a strong foundation for understanding effective leadership.

You will critically evaluate leadership practices using reflective tools and real organisational case studies, helping you assess the effectiveness of different leadership styles and adapt your approach to varying contexts. The module also develops your ability to independently analyse leadership strategies and behaviours by applying theoretical frameworks to real organisational challenges and outcomes.

Alongside this, you will examine current research in organisational behaviour and learn how insights into individual and group behaviour can improve decision-making, communication, motivation, and organisational culture. A strong emphasis is placed on your personal development through guided reflection and feedback, enabling you to understand your leadership identity, enhance your effectiveness, and contribute positively to teams.

Overall, you will build both a conceptual foundation and practical understanding of leadership, preparing you to engage confidently and competently in leadership roles in your future career.

You will critically analyse key sustainability concepts, incorporating both historical foundations and contemporary developments. You will evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability communications, including internal messaging, corporate disclosures, annual reporting, and marketing strategies. You will assess the roles and influence of governments, shareholders, stakeholders, employees, and consumers in shaping sustainability practices, decision-making processes, and the evolving purpose of corporations. You will examine sustainability practices across core business functions—such as finance, accounting, supply chain, operations, marketing, and human resource management—and across various industry sectors including energy, transport, manufacturing, and services. You will develop, present, and critically assess sustainability-driven strategies tailored to different business scenarios, applying relevant theories and conceptual frameworks. Finally, you will formulate actionable policy recommendations based on strategic analysis, justify your choice of analytical tools, and reflect on the practical value and limitations of these policies in driving sustainable business practices.

This module explores culture as a vital factor shaping international business in the global economy. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of how culture is defined, interpreted, and classified, drawing not only from business studies but also from disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, and political science. The module examines how culture both influences and is influenced by international business theories, and how it operates at multiple levels, including national, industry, organisational, and individual contexts.
You will address key conceptual and practical challenges involved in identifying, analysing, and measuring cultural differences. Through real-world examples, you will explore how cultural interactions emerge in international business settings and how these encounters can be interpreted and managed effectively.
The module also emphasises the practical application of cultural knowledge across core business functions such as strategy, organisational behaviour, human resource management, finance, and marketing. Using case studies, you will analyse how cultural dynamics affect cross-cultural negotiations, international partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, strategy development, and expatriate management.
By the end of the module, you will be able to critically evaluate the role of culture in shaping business performance and confidently apply cultural insight to decision-making in diverse, multicultural business environments.

You will have the opportunity to produce an individual and sustained piece of original work that addresses a specific area of your choosing within the field of economics and analytics. Through background research and the application of theoretical knowledge, you will demonstrate your intellectual and conceptual skills. As the final module of your MSc degree, this research project enables you to utilise and integrate your learning by applying it to a focused topic of investigation.
As you undertake this work, you will develop your analytical abilities, critical evaluation skills, and capacity for self-reflection. Support is provided through research workshops that offer a thorough understanding of quantitative research methods, guidance on designing and conducting independent research, and instruction on supporting and justifying conclusions using data modelled with software packages. You will also receive support as an independent learner from an assigned supervisor who will guide you through this learning process.
